Background:

As part of the partnership undertaking between UN and China, a high-level International Forum on Poverty Reduction is established on an annual basis to serve as a mechanism to intensify dialogue on policy formulation and implementation for poverty reduction and promote knowledge sharing between China and the world. The Forum provides a platform for high-level policy influence and sharing of practical experiences from a broad circle of relevant fields.

The Forum is jointly organized by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development of China (LGOP) and UN China on 17 October in Beijing on an annual basis.

Around 200 people including high-ranking Chinese government officials, UN officials, government officials from other developing countries, diplomatic missions in China, national and international renowned scholars and experts as well as representatives of the civil society/NGOs and the private sector will be invited to attend the forum each year. The forum will also be exposed to wide media coverage.

As the secretariat of the UN Theme Group on Poverty and Inequality, UNDP China is the focal point for the preparation of the Forum on the UN side.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the overall guidance of the Team Leader of Social & Economic Development and South-South Cooperation Team of UNDP China and the direct supervision of the secretariat of UN Theme Group on Poverty and Inequality, the incumbent of the internship will provide effective support to the preparation of the forum. Duties include:

  • Sending invitation to and follow-up confirmation from invitees with focus on international invitees from the UN side. Consolidate, compile and update invitee status list.
  • Provide support to VIP international invitees/speakers’ requests on logistics, including visa, air-ticket, local logistic arrangements, etc.
  • Assist in collecting and consolidating speakers’ presentations, background materials, media materials if needed.
  • Provide support to on-site coordination at the venue on 17 October 2010.
  • Other ad hoc tasks if needed.

Qualifications:

  • Current university postgraduate student in Business, Public Administration, Economics, Political and Social Sciences or other relevant fields.
  • Prior experiences in international event management or experiences with international organizations are preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese.
